Without having a bra on, stand in the upright position and get a measuring tape to measure both under your bust (where the bra would usually rest under and around your back. Make sure that as you measure that the measuring tape is even and straight as this may have an impact on your next bra being either too big or small. It is important to note that you should not measure tightly, but should rather feel secure and close-fitting. The measurements should be done in inches rather than centimetres as this is how bras are seized. If it is an odd number round up to the next inch for a good fit (since all bras are made in even numbers) and if it’s an even number there’s nothing more you need to do, you’ve found your size! Pretty easy huh?
When it comes to measuring your cup size, it is recommended that you wear your current bra that fits the most comfortable and offers great support - this is so that the next bra you get in your actual bra size will allow the bust to be held in place to the way in which you prefer. For this you will need to measure around the fullest part of your chest. Once you have done this, you will next need to subtract your back size from the bust measurement. This will equate to your cup size:
0 = AA; 1 = A; 2 = B; 3 = C; 4 = D; 5 = DD; 6 = F; 7 = FF; 8 = G.
You will next need to incorporate both the back and cup size measurements together so that you have a number that comes before a letter for example, 34DD. This is your bra size.
Knowing the right fit
Once you have made adjustments to your bra (the shoulder straps and the back) it should feel like you aren’t wearing one. For the shoulder straps ensure that they are tight enough so that you feel supported, but not too tight that the straps are digging into your shoulders. To make sure that the bra is sitting in the correct place, the middle part of the bra should sit midway between your shoulders and elbows. To do this position yourself sideways in front of the mirror. Once you are happy with the placement of the garment and it falls midway, you have a new bra that fits you perfectly! You’re a pro already, who needed to go to a retailer to get it measured? Not us!
