How to check your Breasts...
Cancer has affected everyone whether it is yourself or someone close to you, but did you know that 1 in 7 women (It can develop in Men also) will develop breast cancer in their lifetime which is why it's so important that you get checked! October is breast cancer awareness month, a time where people show their support to those affected by breast cancer and spread awareness.
Here is how to check yourself properly:
Every woman's breasts are different so you need to know what is 'normal' for you. However, you need to take into account that they may be different when you are on your Period or after the Menopause.
The 5-point plan for being breast aware:
- Know what's normal for you
- Look at your breasts and feel them
- Know what changes to look for
- Report any changes without delay
- Attend routine screening if you're 50 or over
Look at your bust and feel each breast, armpit and up to your collarbone.
You can also look at your breasts in the mirror. Look with your arms by your side and also with them raised.
Check for any changes in size, shape, look or feel of the skin, lumps or nipple discharge, bleeding, change in nipple position, rash or discomfort.
If you have any concerns, book to see your GP as soon as possible!
Many women find lumps that are not breast cancer but it is always best to see your doctor.
